Duas & adhkar

Adhkar after salah, with Arabic and sources

Adhkar after salah are the words the Prophet ﷺ said once he finished the obligatory prayer. Below is each one in Arabic, with transliteration, a translation, and the hadith it comes from.

Six are established and listed first, in the order the narrations suggest. Two more, said after Fajr, are graded differently by hadith scholars and are listed at the end with each grading named.

The order after the salam

When the Prophet ﷺ finished his prayer, he said "Astaghfirullah" three times and then "Allahumma antas-salam wa minkas-salam, tabarakta ya dhal-jalali wal-ikram" (Sahih Muslim 591). The other adhkar below were said after the prayer too, but the narrations do not fix their order.

The tasbih is counted: "Subhanallah", "Alhamdulillah" and "Allahu akbar" thirty-three times each, then "La ilaha illallah wahdahu la sharika lah..." once to make a hundred (Sahih Muslim 597).

The duas

1.Astaghfirullah, then Allahumma antas-salam

Authentic Prophetic dua

Astaghfirullāh (three times). Allāhumma antas-salāmu wa minkas-salām, tabārakta yā dhal-jalāli wal-ikrām.

I seek the forgiveness of Allah (three times). O Allah, You are Peace and from You comes peace. Blessed are You, O Owner of majesty and honour. (Hisn al-Muslim translation (sunnah.com))

When the Prophet ﷺ finished his prayer he asked forgiveness three times and then said this (Sahih Muslim 591). The word "ya" (O) is in al-Tirmidhi's version (Jami' at-Tirmidhi 300).

2.None has the right to be worshipped but Allah... none can withhold what You give

Authentic Prophetic dua

Lā ilāha illallāhu waḥdahu lā sharīka lah, lahul-mulku wa lahul-ḥamd, wa huwa `alā kulli shay'in qadīr. Allāhumma lā māni`a limā a`ṭayt, wa lā mu`ṭiya limā mana`t, wa lā yanfa`u dhal-jaddi minkal-jadd.

None has the right to be worshipped but Allah alone, who has no partner. His is the dominion and His is the praise, and He is Able to do all things. O Allah, none can withhold what You give, none can give what You withhold, and the wealth of the wealthy is of no use to him against You. Al-Mughirah ibn Shu'bah wrote that the Prophet ﷺ said this after every obligatory prayer (Sahih al-Bukhari 844). Hisn al-Muslim marks the first part "three times"; that count is not in this narration, so none is given here.

3.None has the right to be worshipped but Allah... we worship none but Him

Authentic Prophetic dua

None has the right to be worshipped but Allah alone, who has no partner. His is the dominion and His is the praise, and He is Able to do all things. There is no might and no power except by Allah. None has the right to be worshipped but Allah, and we worship none but Him. His is the blessing, His is the bounty and His is the most excellent praise. None has the right to be worshipped but Allah; we make our religion sincerely His, even though the disbelievers dislike it. (Hisn al-Muslim translation (sunnah.com), adapted to follow the Arabic)

'Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr said this after the salam of every prayer and reported that the Prophet ﷺ said it at the end of every prayer (Sahih Muslim 594).

4.Subhanallah, Alhamdulillah, Allahu akbar 33 times each, then La ilaha illallah

Authentic Prophetic dua

Subḥānallāh, wal-ḥamdu lillāh, wallāhu akbar (each 33 times). Lā ilāha illallāhu waḥdahu lā sharīka lah, lahul-mulku wa lahul-ḥamd, wa huwa `alā kulli shay'in qadīr.

Glory be to Allah, praise be to Allah, Allah is the Greatest (each 33 times). None has the right to be worshipped but Allah alone, who has no partner. His is the dominion and His is the praise, and He is Able to do all things. (Hisn al-Muslim translation (sunnah.com), adapted to follow the Arabic)

5.Ayat al-Kursi after every obligatory prayer

From the Quran

Allāh - there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Self-Sustaining. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursī extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great. The Prophet ﷺ said that nothing prevents whoever recites Ayat al-Kursi after every obligatory prayer from entering Paradise except death. (Sahih al-Jami' 6464 · Sahih (al-Albani))

Al-Mundhiri and al-Haythami said one of its chains is sound, Ibn Kathir said its chain meets al-Bukhari's conditions, and Ibn Baz and Shu'ayb al-Arna'ut accepted it. Ibn al-Jawzi listed it among fabricated reports; Ibn Hajar said he was mistaken.

6.Al-Ikhlas, al-Falaq and an-Nas after every prayer

'Uqbah ibn 'Amir said the Prophet ﷺ told him to recite the mu'awwidhat after every prayer (Sunan Abi Dawud 1523). The narration gives no number; reciting them three times after Fajr and Maghrib is a recommendation of some scholars, not part of this hadith.

Scholars differ on these

These are widely shared, but hadith scholars graded the narrations differently. Each one names who accepted it and who judged it weak.

1.La ilaha illallah... yuhyi wa yumit (10 times after Fajr)

Grading disputed

Lā ilāha illallāhu waḥdahu lā sharīka lah, lahul-mulku wa lahul-ḥamd, yuḥyī wa yumīt, wa huwa `alā kulli shay'in qadīr.

None has the right to be worshipped but Allah alone, who has no partner. His is the dominion and His is the praise. He gives life and causes death, and He is Able to do all things. (Hisn al-Muslim translation (sunnah.com))

Say 10 timesSource: Jami' at-Tirmidhi 3474Hisn al-Muslim no. 72

Said ten times after the Fajr prayer, while still sitting as in prayer and before speaking. The narration says ten good deeds are written, ten sins erased and ten degrees raised, with protection that day from every disliked thing and from Satan (Jami' at-Tirmidhi 3474).

Grading: Accepted: al-Tirmidhi called it hasan gharib sahih; al-Albani first graded it weak and later withdrew that, grading it hasan through supporting narrations (Sahih al-Targhib 472); al-Mundhiri accepted its chain. Questioned: Shu'ayb al-Arna'ut noted that its narrator Shahr ibn Hawshab is weak; Ibn Hajar said its chain is inconsistent (mudtarib), though it has a supporting narration.

2.O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge (after Fajr)

Grading disputed

Allāhumma innī as'aluka `ilman nāfi`an, wa rizqan ṭayyiban, wa `amalan mutaqabbalā.

O Allah, I ask You for knowledge that benefits, provision that is good, and deeds that are accepted. (Hisn al-Muslim translation (sunnah.com), adapted to follow the Arabic)

Source: Sunan Ibn Majah 925Hisn al-Muslim no. 73

Umm Salamah said the Prophet ﷺ said this after the salam of the Fajr prayer (Sunan Ibn Majah 925).

Grading: Accepted: al-Albani graded it sahih (Sahih Ibn Majah 762); Ibn Hajar graded it hasan through a supporting narration; the Darussalam edition grades it sahih. Questioned: al-Shawkani and Ibn 'Uthaymin noted that one narrator, the freed slave of Umm Salamah, is unknown.

Sources and method

Each dua on this page is copied from its source, not rewritten: the Quran from quran.com, and hadith from the collections named under each dua, checked on sunnah.com. Where a hadith grading is given, it is the grading of the scholar named next to it, not our own. Repetition counts appear only where the narration states them.

Each item is labelled as Quranic, an authentic Prophetic dua, a dua whose grading scholars dispute, a general dua, or popular wording with no established Prophetic source. Sources were last checked on 2026-10-07. Read our editorial standards, and if you find an error, please tell us.
