Can I read offline?

Yes. Once you've opened a surah, the text is cached on your device. Audio playback, detection, and Live Translation need an internet connection.

In fact the complete Arabic Quran is built into the app, so you can read every surah offline, even ones you've never opened. What you need to prepare in advance is your translation and, if you use it, the Tajweed font.

Before you go offline:

1. Check your translation. Go to Settings › Language › "Translation Language". A translation with an "Offline" badge is ready to use offline.
2. If yours shows "Download", tap it while you're connected. A downloaded translation works offline from then on.
3. If you read in the Mushaf layout with Tajweed colours, download the Tajweed font (about 160 MB) while on Wi-Fi. On iPhone, Settings › Reading › "Mushaf Style" has a "Download over cellular" switch if you want to allow it on mobile data. On Android, the app asks before downloading over mobile data.

What works offline: reading in all three layouts (Verse by Verse, Mushaf, Compact), your bookmarks and your translations once downloaded.

What needs a connection:

1. Detecting a recitation. Offline you'll see "No Internet Connection".
2. Live Translation. If the connection drops mid-session, Live keeps listening for up to 10 minutes and catches up when you're back online.
3. The Smart Scanner, AI Explain and AI Chat.
4. Reciter audio. It is streamed, although surahs you have already played may be kept in a temporary cache on your phone.

Good to know: if you open a translation that isn't downloaded while offline, the reader shows one that is and tells you which one it's showing.
