How do I use Auto-Detect?

Open the Detect tab and long-press the main button for about a second. The button switches to Auto mode: the status reads "Auto-Detecting..." and RecitID keeps listening until it identifies the verse.

Step by step:

1. Open the Detect tab. The hint under the button reads "Long press for auto-detect".
2. Press and hold the main button for about a second, until the status changes to "Auto-Detecting...". From Home, you can press and hold the "Identify a recitation" card instead.
3. Put the phone near the recitation. The arcs around the RecitID logo keep turning while it listens.
4. When a verse is recognised, the result opens and Auto-Detect stops.
5. To catch a later verse, long-press the button again to start a new session.

Controls while it runs:

1. Tap the button to pause. The status changes to "Auto-detect paused", with "Resume" and "Stop" buttons.
2. Long-press to stop completely. The on-screen hint is "Tap to pause • Long press to stop".
3. With VoiceOver on iPhone, use the "Start auto-detect" and "Stop auto-detect" actions.

If nothing is found:

1. "Can't hear clearly" means it isn't picking up usable recitation. Move closer or turn up the sound.
2. "No recitation heard" means it paused itself after about 30 seconds without usable audio. Tap "Resume" to try again.
3. After 5 failed connection attempts in a row it stops with "Connection lost. Please check your network and try again." (Android: "Connection lost — auto-detect stopped").

Good to know: Auto-Detect keeps listening while you use other apps and sends a notification when it finds the verse. On the free plan, each clip it sends for matching counts towards your 5 daily detections, except clips where no recitation was heard.
