Why does it need microphone access?

RecitID uses the microphone to hear the recitation. The clip is sent to our servers to be matched against the Quran, then deleted as soon as the match completes. We keep no copy of it.

The processing providers we route through may hold request content briefly for security and abuse monitoring. Your audio is never used for advertising and never sold. Full detail is in our Privacy Policy.

The microphone is used by two features: Detect, to identify a recitation, and Live, to transcribe and translate a khutbah. On iPhone the permission prompt says: "RecitID needs microphone access to detect Quran recitations and provide real-time translation of khutbahs and taraweeh sessions." The camera is a separate permission, used only by the Smart Scanner.

If you said no and want to turn the microphone on:

1. On iPhone, tap the Detect button. RecitID shows "Microphone access needed" with an "Open Settings" button. You can also go to Settings › RecitID › Microphone yourself.
2. On Android, the system asks again the next time you tap. If Android no longer shows its prompt (for example after you've declined more than once), RecitID shows "Microphone access denied" with "Open Settings". Turn on Microphone under Permissions.
3. Come back to RecitID and tap the button again.

Good to know: if another app is using the microphone, for example a call or a voice recorder, iPhone shows "Couldn't start the microphone. Close other audio apps and try again." In Live, audio is sent in short chunks and each chunk is deleted as soon as it has been transcribed.
