Biography

Sheikh Yasser Al-Dosari (b. 1980, Al-Kharj) is a Saudi imam and khatib of Masjid al-Haram in Mecca, appointed imam in 2019 after leading its Taraweeh prayers from 2015. He holds a doctorate in comparative jurisprudence and teaches at Umm Al-Qura University.

Yasser Al-Dosari completed his memorisation of the Quran in government Quran memorisation schools by his third year of intermediate school, and began leading prayers at about the age of 15. He read the Quran to several leading teachers, including Bakri Al-Tarabishi, Ibrahim Al-Akhdar and Muhammad Tamim Al-Zoubi. He earned a bachelor's degree from the College of Sharia at Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University in 1423 AH (2002/03), and a master's in 1430 AH (2008/09) and a doctorate in 2014 from the university's Higher Judicial Institute.

Before joining the Haram he worked as secretary of the Prince Sultan Quran memorisation society at the Ministry of Defence and taught at King Saud University, first as a lecturer and then as an assistant professor. In a 2014 interview with Al-Eqtisadiah he was described as imam and khatib of the Al-Dakheel Mosque in east Riyadh, which he said he had led for ten years. Saudipedia lists him among the students of Sheikh Abdullah Al-Jibreen and Sheikh Abdulaziz Al-Sheikh.

How to recognise Sheikh Yasser Al-Dosari's voice

Three things tend to place Yasser's voice: the measured Haramain style familiar from Makkah and Madinah broadcasts; careful, textbook articulation, which is why students are often pointed to him; and a deep, weighty register that carries in a large hall. That is our own listening note to help you place the voice, not a sourced biographical claim.
