Sheikh Abdullah Al-Khayat عبدالله الخياط

Sheikh Abdullah Al-Khayat (1908–1995) was a Saudi scholar and former imam and khatib of Masjid al-Haram in Mecca, serving for decades until his retirement in 1984, and the father of the Haram imam Usama Khayyat. He recited in the Hafs an Asim narration.

He received his primary education at the Al-Khayat school, studied at Al-Madrasa Al-Raqiya and then joined the Saudi Scientific Institute, studying under the scholars of the Grand Mosque. In 1346 AH (1927/28) he became an imam of Masjid al-Haram alongside Sheikh Abdul Zahir Abu al-Samh, and he also taught the Quran at the Al-Fakhriyya school.

He also had a career in education: he headed the Princes' (Anjal) School in Riyadh, and later served as an adviser for education, director of education, and vice dean and professor at the College of Sharia. He was also a member of the Council of Senior Scholars.
