How do I use the Scanner?

Tap the camera icon on the right of the tab bar. Aim at the text and tap the shutter. RecitID reads the Arabic, identifies what it is (Quran, hadith, du'a, dhikr, or general Islamic text), and returns a result card with translation, tafsir, and context. You can also tap the gallery icon to upload a photo, or the paste pill to paste Arabic text.

Scanning with the camera:

1. Tap the camera icon on the right of the tab bar, or the "Scan" shortcut on Home if it is one of your four Home shortcuts.
2. Hold the phone steady over the page so all the text you want is in the frame.
3. Tap the screen to focus. Pinch, or use the 1x and 2x buttons (plus 0.5x on phones with an ultra-wide camera), to zoom.
4. In low light, turn on the flash. It stays on as a torch while you aim.
5. Tap the shutter ("Take photo").
6. If the photo is too dark or blurry, RecitID warns you, for example "Too blurry — hold the camera steady". Retake it, or tap "Scan Anyway".

Using a photo you already have:

1. Tap the gallery icon ("Upload from gallery") and choose a photo.
2. Check the "Selected Image" preview, then tap "Scan", or "Retake" to choose again.

Pasting or typing text:

1. Tap "Paste Arabic text".
2. In "Paste or Type Text", tap "Paste from Clipboard" or type the Arabic yourself.
3. Tap "Identify Text".

When the result opens, the "…" menu has "Share", "Copy Arabic", "Copy translation", "Fix recognition" and "Report incorrect result". "Scan again" takes you back to the camera.

Good to know: tap "?" at the top of the camera for scanning tips. Tap ✕ to close the scanner. Scanning needs a free account and an internet connection.
