Sheikh Ali Jaber علي عبدالله جابر

Sheikh Ali Abdullah Jaber (c. 1953–2005) was a Saudi Quran reciter and scholar from Jeddah who served as an imam of Masjid al-Haram in Makkah from 1981 to 1983 and led its Tarawih prayers from 1986 to 1989. He lectured in comparative jurisprudence at King Abdulaziz University.

Ali Jaber lived in Madinah from the age of five, and he began his career as an imam at Al-Ghamama Mosque there in 1394 AH (1974). His appointment to Masjid al-Haram came at the request of King Khalid in 1401 AH (1981). He earned a doctorate in comparative jurisprudence with a thesis on the jurisprudence of al-Qasim ibn Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr, and he lectured in the Department of Islamic Studies and Arabic at the College of Education in Madinah. He declined an appointment as a judge at the Maysan court.

In 1403 AH (1982/83) he made a complete video recording of the Quran for Saudi television, and in 1404 AH (1983/84) the college sent him to Canada to study English, where he recorded the murattal mushaf that has been broadcast on Saudi Quran Radio.
