Biography

Sheikh Ibrahim Al-Akhdar (b. 1945, Madinah) is a Saudi Quran reciter who served as an imam of Masjid an-Nabawi for nine years from 1986. Trained in the seven readings, he taught at the Islamic University of Madinah's faculties of Quran and Da'wah and has judged national and international Quran competitions.

Ibrahim Al-Akhdar studied under leading reciters including Sheikh Hasan Al-Sha'ir, Sheikh Ahmad Al-Zayyat and Sheikh Amir Al-Sayyid Uthman, and studied with Sheikh Abdul Fattah Al-Qadi for more than thirteen years. He led prayers at Masjid al-Haram before his imamate at the Prophet's Mosque, and he succeeded his teacher Hasan Al-Sha'ir as chief of reciters (shaykh al-qurra) at the Prophet's Mosque.

He recorded a complete mushaf in the Hafs an Asim narration by the Shatibiyyah route and another in the Warsh an Nafi narration. In 2022 the Dubai International Holy Quran Award named him its Islamic Personality of the Year for its 25th edition.
