Biography
Sheikh Muhammad Jibreel (b. 1964, Qalyubia) is an Egyptian Quran reciter and Al-Azhar graduate who led Taraweeh prayers at Cairo's Amr ibn al-As Mosque from 1988 to 2015, drawing large congregations. In 1996 he founded the Dar Ubayy ibn Ka'b centre for Quranic sciences in Cairo.
He was born in the village of Tahuriya in the Shibin al-Qanatir district of Qalyubia, began learning the Quran at the village kuttab and had memorised all of it by the age of nine. His degree from Al-Azhar University is a licence in Sharia and law, and his official CV also lists a master's degree in Islamic studies.
According to his official CV, he took first place in the King Abdulaziz International Competition for Quran memorisation in Makkah in 1986 (1406 AH), and he has recorded several complete Mushafs for broadcast on Egyptian Television and other channels.
