Biography

Sheikh Mustafa Ismail (1905–1978) was an Egyptian Quran reciter from Mit Ghazal, Gharbia, celebrated for his command of the maqamat in mujawwad recitation. Invited by King Farouk to recite at the royal palace, he recited in some twenty-five countries and left more than a thousand recordings.

He trained in tajwid and the Quranic readings under Sheikh Idris Fakhir. In 1947 he became the reciter of Al-Azhar Mosque in Cairo.

He recited at Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem in 1960.
