Sheikh Mohamed Mahmoud Al-Tablawi محمد محمود الطبلاوي

Sheikh Mohamed Mahmoud Al-Tablawi (1934–2020) was an Egyptian Quran reciter who memorized the Quran as a child, joined Egyptian Radio in 1970 and headed Egypt's syndicate of Quran reciters. Over a career of more than six decades he recited at major ceremonies in Egypt and abroad; this is his mujawwad recording.

Born on 14 November 1934, he began at a village kuttab at the age of four, completed memorising the Quran at nine and began reciting at funeral gatherings at twelve. He failed the Egyptian Radio reciters' test nine times before passing on his tenth attempt, and for the radio he recorded the complete Quran twice, once mujawwad and once murattal.

In the 1970s he was chosen as a reciter of Al-Azhar Mosque, and he helped found the reciters' syndicate. He travelled at the invitation of Islamic councils and ministries of endowments, visiting more than 80 Arab and Islamic countries, recited inside the Kaaba during a visit to Saudi Arabia at the request of King Khalid, and judged many Quran competitions. He died on 5 May 2020 and was buried in his family's cemetery in Al-Basatin, Cairo.
