Biography
Sheikh Noreen Mohamed Siddiq (1982–2020) was a Sudanese Quran reciter from North Kordofan who served as imam of the Khartoum Grand Mosque and other Khartoum mosques. His recitations in the Al-Duri an Abi Amr narration reached millions of listeners online; he died in a road accident in 2020.
He was born in the village of Al-Farjab near the town of Bara in Kordofan, memorised the Quran young, studied Quranic sciences under Sheikh Al-Makki and went on to become the sheikh (teacher) of the students at the Al-Farjab khalwa (Quran school). In Khartoum he also led prayers at the Al-Sayida Sanhouri Mosque and Al-Nour Mosque, and he was known for reciting in several narrations. The accident that took his life occurred about 18 km from Omdurman as he and three fellow Quran memorisers were returning from a trip to Wadi Halfa.
